Comparing the Effectiveness of Self-Encouragement Technique and Emotion-Oriented Cognitive Therapy on Suicidal Thoughts and Cognitive Regulation of Emotion in People Attempting Suicide

The aim of this research was self-encouragement technique and emotion-oriented cognitive therapy on suicidal thoughts and cognitive regulation of emotions in people attempting suicide who had referred to counseling centers in Shiraz city in ۲۰۲۳. This research was carried out by a semi-experimental method with an experimental and control group on ۳۰ people from the sample group (۱۰ people per group) which was selected by the method. In this research, two ۱۰-session group methods of self-encouragement technique and emotion-oriented cognitive therapy were used, and to collect data in three time periods (pre-test, post-test and follow-up) in two experimental and control groups, Beck's suicide questionnaire and questionnaire were used. Cognitive regulation of emotion CERQ was used. The results of data analysis using two covariance analysis tests were significant (P<۰.۰۱). Therefore, it was shown that both approaches of self-encouragement and emotion-oriented cognitive therapy led to a decrease in suicidal thoughts and an increase in the cognitive regulation of emotions in the experimental group, and this difference is significant compared to the control group. Also, in the evaluation of the effectiveness of these two methods, there is a significant difference between self-encouragement techniques and emotion-oriented therapy in terms of reducing suicidal thoughts and increasing emotional cognitive regulation, and they do not have the same effect.
