Molecular Detection of Metallo-beta-lactamases Genes in Pseudomonas Aeruginosa Isolated from the Burn Patients

Background & Objectives: Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a leading cause of Hospital-acquired infection worldwide. The organisms isolated are often resistant to multiple antimicrobials particularly which are metallo-beta-lactamases (M&betaL) producers. Therefore, the present study was designed to molecular detection of Metallo-beta-lactamases genes in P. aeruginosa isolated from the burn patients. Materials and methods: This descriptive, cross-sectional study was performed between October to March ۲۰۱۴ on the ۵۵ no duplicative and non-repetitive samples collected from burn patients in Tehran, Iran. Multiplex-PCR assay was done in order to detection of IMP ،VIM ،SPM ،GIM-۱ and SIM-۱ genes in the strains. Results: The average age of the population studied was ۴۹ years, with a range of ۱۵ to ۸۹ years. Forty-three (۷۸.۲%) were male and ۱۲(۲۱.۸%) were female. the distribution of the IMP ،VIM ،SPM ،GIM-۱ and SIM-۱ genes were ۲(۳.۶۳%), ۰(۰.۰۰%), ۲(۳.۶۳%), ۲(۳.۶۳%) and ۰(۰.۰۰%), respectively. Conclusion: M&betaL producing P. aeruginosa is an emerging threat in burn patients and a cause of concern for physicians treating such infections.
