Food Security and Some Associated Factors among Women with Poly-Cystic Ovary Syndrome

Food insecurity is defined as the limited or uncertain availability of enough foodfor an always active and healthy life. Poly-cystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is themost common endocrine disorder among women of reproductive age. The aimof present study was assessing food security status and some associated factorsin women with PCOS. A cross-sectional study was conducted on ۱۲۰ women(with mean age ۵.۶۷±۲۹.۲۴ years) referred to Arash hospital (Tehran, Iran)in ۲۰۱۵. General and socioeconomic characteristics and food security statusassessed using -۲۱item general and -۱۸item USDA household food securityquestionnaires. Chi-squarePearson correlation and logistic regression tests andSPSS۱۶ software were used for statistical analysis Food insecurity percentagewas ۵۵.۸۳ % (without hunger ۲۹.۱۷ %with moderate hunger ۲۴.۱۶ % andwith severe hunger ۲.۵ %). Food security was independently and significantlyassociated to personal education levels and house ownership status in womenwith PCOS. More than half of women with PCOS were food insecure. It is essentialto pay more attention for modification of food insecurity and associated factorsespecially in women.
