چکیده مقاله:
Introduction: One of the most common invasive procedures inthe hospital is peripheral venous catheter insertion. Thesecatheters are used for short-term administration of intravenousfluids, dehydration treatment, body electrolyte adjustment, bloodinfusion, and medication administration. Researches has shownthat in many cases there is no overlap between nurses' Functionin peripheral catheter care and clinical guidelines. The mostimportant reason for not following clinical guidelines in nurses islack of knowledge and insufficient skills in peripheral veincatheter care. Focusing on intravenous catheter placementtraining in nurses can increase nurses' knowledge, skills andconfidence. Studies show that e-learning and the use of newtechnologies in education among nurses reduces the duration oftraining and increases the success rate, improves the knowledgeand skills of nurses and brings more satisfaction with theeducational program. Objective: To determine the Effect of ShortText Messaging Clinical Guidelines on Knowledge inIntravenous Catheter Placement in Nurses in Guilan. Methods: This is a non-randomized, quasi experimental trialwith one group designed for ۳۴ nurses. The research populationconsisted of all nurses working in Heshmat Medical Center inRasht city. ۳۴ nurses were selected randomly. Beforeintervention, knowledge of nurses were evaluated and recordedfor ۱۰ days, two educational short messages are sent to them daily, about how to insert peripheral venous catheters. Theknowledge of nurses were evaluated and recorded at the firstworking day after the end of the training and ۸ weeks after that.Mann-Whitney U statistical test was used to assess knowledgescores. Results: The findings showed there was increasing trend in thescore of knowledge in the interval before the intervention toimmediately after the intervention (p<۰/۰۰۱) and afterwardsthe changes were fixed. Conclusion: Using mobile phones as a teaching method hascreated a lasting awareness among nurses that nursing managerscan use this approach for training. The mobile telephone offers apowerful tool to medical educators, particularly those in resourcelimitedsettings, where its use has not been widely studied. Thereis thus a need for further research into the utilisation of mobiletelephones as a vehicle for delivering training and encouragingself-directed learning amongst healthcare workers in thedeveloping world.
