چکیده مقاله:

Introduction: Using simulated patients (SPs) in clinical skillseducation is a common method of providing training to studentsto hone their skills for future client encounters. These skills mayconsist of history taking, physical examination, communicationskills, and performance ability. The natural condition of physicaltherapy (PT) clinical environment need therapist' fast reaction tohave the best clinical decision making. It should be gained byexperience of different scenarios during education. SPs seem tobe an effective teaching strategy for PT clinical education. Thissystematic review aims to provide an overview of the SP strategyin PT education. Also, we want to review different examples ofSPs in physiotherapy education. Methods: PubMed, SCOPUS, and Web of Science databaseswere searched up to October ۲۰۱۹ with no language restriction. To conduct a comprehensive search, different keywords relatedto the topic were selected using MeSh. To find more eligiblestudies, references of all included articles were screened. Anytypes of study design which had used simulation-based learningin undergraduate's physical therapy student were eligible forinclusion. Studies with the qualitative method were excluded. Two researchers independently reviewed studies and appraisedthem critically. Results: A total of ۶۷۱ abstracts were retrieved and afterreviewing full-text paper, ۱۶ full-text articles were included.Eight of them were excluded because they were descriptive orused qualitative design. Finally, eight articles were included to bereviewed. These studies had used simulated patients for variousaims including replicate different aspects of real clinical practice, patient education self-efficacy, feasibility, self-perceived skills, and confidence. Based on the result of studies, simulation, as aneducational technique, could improve student's clinical reasoningskills, communication, and motivation. Also, it can provide a safeand supportive learning environment for physiotherapy students. Conclusion:The simulated patient is a useful modality to deliverlearning activities in medical education and physical therapycurricula, facilitating feedback on students' performance withopportunities to interact with real patients and environments. Itseems that further high quality randomized controlled trials areneeded to evaluate the efficacy of simulation on other outcomemeasures such as patient safety skills.
