چکیده مقاله:
Background and Objective: Nowday, obesity is considered as a risk factor in various diseases and its prevalence is increasing in the modern world. In many countries, more than a third of the population is obese. Obesity is considered as a risk factor in the development and recurrence of breast cancer and it complicates the treatment of patients. In this study, we reviewed the studies conducted on the effect of obesity in the treatment and management of breast cancer patients.Materials & Methods: In this study, we reviewed the studies conducted in the last ۵ years (since ۲۰۱۷) on breast cancer and obese patients in Web of science, Scopus, Pubmed, Google scholar, Scientific information database (SID), and Iranmedex databases.Findings: Nowday, various treatments have been developed for breast cancer; these treatments include chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery. Despite all the novel local and systematic treatments for these patients, obese women have lower disease free and overall survival than women with normal weight. In addition, the treatment, survival and management of these patients are more difficult and have more complications. In obese women with breast cancer, the use of local chemotherapy, even if it is proportional to the patient's weight, will not bring the favorable outcome. Breast reconstruction after treatment is less in obese women and the surgery of these people will bring more complications. In addition, the probability of local recurrence of the disease is higher in obese women than in non-obese women. Conclusions: Obese people constitute a significant population of the society, and the risk of breast cancer in this population is high. In obese women with breast cancer, the effectiveness of current treatments is less and the survival rate, tumor suppress, treatment and management of this patients are more difficult than normal weight women. Therefore, programs to encourage women of all ages to lose weight and maintain an ideal weight throughout life seem essential. In addition, more studies should be conduct to achieve more appropriate and effective treatments for obese women with breast cancer.
