Synthesis and Characterization of praseodymium zircon as Yellow Pigment

There is an increasing research interest of yellow pigment for coloring ceramics that mustshow thermal and chemical stability at high temperature [۱]. Throughout history various yellowceramic pigments have been used: yellow of vanadium-zirconia, tin-vanadium yellow, cadmiumyellows, lead antimoniate , etc. The praseodymium zircon (Pr-ZrSiO۴) yellow ceramic pigment isbelieved to be a solid solution of Pr۴+ with the zirconlattice, but studies are poor and scarce [۲].The aim of this work, is the synthesis of Pr-ZrSiO۴yellow pigment in the presence of NaF andNaCl by the method of mixing metal oxides and toinvestigate the nature of the pigment. The Pr-ZrSiO۴particles are characterized by XRD, SEM and XRF to analyze their structure andmorphology. The results show that particles of Pr-ZrSiO۴was synthesized, has particle size about۶۰-۱۰۰۰ nmby olivine-baddeleyite structure.
