چکیده مقاله:

The present study intends to review the most recent studies on teaching text structure in English as a Second andForeign Language (ESL and EFL) contexts. By concentrating on the major contributions and the issues on the implementation oftext structure instruction in the language classroom, the researchers attempt to inform second and foreign language scholars tostudy its applicability in developing the learners’ writing, speaking, listening comprehension, and vocabulary in addition toreading comprehension, which has abundantly been taken into account by the researchers. In order to uncover the unstudied areasof teaching structures, it seems important for the researchers to consider variables including the learners’ language proficiency,context of the instruction, and the teacher’s expertise in applying the text structure instruction, which can broaden our insightsregarding the efficiency of teaching text structure as a practical strategy in English Language Teaching (ELT). Reviewing therelevant research on teaching text structure recommends further studies on investigating the relationship between textualawareness-raising intervention and teacher’s identity, learners’ self-efficacy, and autonomy, as well, which can producepedagogical implications in ESL/EFL contexts both in theory and practice.
