Improvement of Nile tilapia, O. niloticus aquaculture industry with environmental perspectives

Tilapia aquaculture in Iran is a relatively new industry. The development of tilapia can be planned in small, commercial and industrial scales. Its development will improve the livelihood of families in low-income areas, develop the local economy, increase the per capita consumption of fish, increase national production and provide protein. Tilapia production is relatively easy; it is a good candidate for aquaculture in low water areas, and a marketable fish. It is necessary to develop tilapia production according to international protocols and environmental considerations. Application of aquaculture technical instructions and compliance, production of tilapia in indoor and greenhouse spaces using recirculation and zero exchange systems, waste water control and implementation of health regulations are of the most important recommendations for the sustainable development of tilapia aquaculture.
