Assessing the Quality of Life and Its Correlated Factors among Older Patients with Skin Disorders Referring to Clinic Razi, Rasht, Iran in ۲۰۱۸

Introduction and Objective: The prevalence of skin disorders increases with advancing age. Given that the burden of skin disease is accompanied with physical, psychological, and social consequences, the present study was aimed to determine the quality of life and its correlated factors among older patients with skin disorders .Methods: This cross-sectional and descriptive study was performed on ۳۱۰ older patients with skin diseases referring to Razi Clinic in Rasht, Iran. The older patients were selected by convenience sampling methods. Demographic characteristic checklist and Skindex_۱۶ scale were used to collect the data. The data was analyzed by independent t test and ANOVA.Results: The mean age of the older patients was ۶۴.۶۲ ± ۵.۱۸ years old. Most participants in this study were female (۵۶.۸%, n = ۱۷۶), married (۲۵۷, ۸۲.۹%), and lived with their spouse or children (۸۱.۹%, n = ۲۵۴). Results showed that older patients diagnosed with psoriasis reported significantly lower quality of life than patients with other skin conditions. The results also revealed that unemployed patients, with poor economic status, living in rural areas, suffering from mental illnesses, and under longer treatment had lower quality of life .Conclusion: The results showed that psoriasis has a significant negative impact on health related quality of life of older patients. It is recommended to pay more attention to older patients who are unemployed, with poor economic situation, with mental conditions, and residing in the rural area .
