Introduction and Objective: Excess adiposity is one of the main risk factors for different illnesses such as cardiovascular disease and the obesity among teenagers is increasing .Data about the association between
meal frequency and childhood obesity are limited and this association was less investigated in the literature. We aimed to determine the relationship between
meal frequency with abdominal and
general obesity in population of
adolescence girls. Methods: The study was conducted among ۷۳۳ adolescent
girls living in Iran. The number of servings received was checked using a standard questionnaire and participants answered that they eat one meal, two meals, or all three meals to investigate the association between
meal frequency with abdominal and general obesity, we used logistic regression analysis in crude and adjusted model. Obesity indicators include general over weight and obesity in
adolescence are defined that BMI between the ۸۵th and ۹۵th percentile for age and gender and BMI is greater than the ۹۵th percentile and
abdominal obesity was defined as waist circumference/height ratio >۰.۵in children and adolescence. Results: No significant association between
meal frequency that the participants consuming three main meals compared with those with
meal frequency that the participants consuming one main meal for
general obesity in the crude model (OR ۰·۵۰, ۹۵ % CI ۰.۲۰-۱.۲۲; P:۰.۱۳). After adjustments for all potential confounders such as age, physical activity and energy intake, this relationship was still not significant (OR ۰·۴۷, ۹۵ % CI ۰·۱۹-۱.۶۰; P:۰.۱۰) and no significant correlation was seen between
meal frequency that the participants consuming three main meals compared with those with
meal frequency that the participants consuming one main meal for
abdominal obesity in the crude model(OR ۰·۳۸, ۹۵ % CI ۰.۱۴-۱; P:۰.۰۵) and then after adjustments for all potential confounders such as age, physical activity and energy intake, this correlation was significant (OR ۰·۳۸, ۹۵ % CI ۰·۱۴-۰.۹۶; P:۰.۰۴).Conclusion: As a result, we did not find any significant relationship between the frequency of meals and general obesity. However, a significant relationship was seen between the frequency of meals and
abdominal obesity after adjustment(P:۰.۰۴). Further prospective studies are needed to confirm these Results.
