چکیده مقاله:

Background and Aim:Cultural Competence happens along a continuum and consists of stages. “Cultural Destructiveness” isthe most negative end of the continuum is signified by attitudes, rules, and practices which aredestructive to cultures and subsequently to the individuals within the culture. The next position on thecontinuum is “Cultural Incapacity” in which the systems do not respond effectively to the requests, interests, and favorites of culturally and linguistically diverse groups. The philosophy of “Culturalblindness” is viewing and treating all people as the same. Characteristics of such systems includepolicies and personnel who encourage assimilation, ignore cultural strengths, and little value placed ontraining and resource development that facilitate cultural and linguistic competence. The stage of“Cultural Pre-Competence” is characterized by approving and admiration for difference, and carefulconsideration of the dynamics of difference to better meet the needs of minority populations. The mostpositive end of the scale is “Advanced Cultural Competence” or “Proficiency”. This point on thecontinuum is characterized by holding culture in high respect. Culturally proficient systems seek toadd to the knowledge base of culturally competent practice by directing research and developing newapproaches based on culture. Methods: A review study was carried out to find documentation related to the topic of searching indatabases such as PubMed, Scopus, Science Direct, ISI, Web of Science Search, Magiran, and SID, inboth Persian and English, and related articles reviewed and evaluated. Results:Cultural competence is a developmental process and that education to promote cultural competency inphysical activity practitioners should progress along a continuum that enhances knowledge, attitudes, and skills throughout the educational program, across varied teaching and learning experiences in theeducational curriculum.
