Background: Breathing in other people’s cigarette smoke is called passive smoking (PS) orsecondhand smoking (SHS). This word refers to the state in which an individual is involuntarilyexposed to the smoke from other peoples’ cigarettes, hookah, and other tobacco substances.Passive exposure of children to cigarette smoke has been implicated in several recalcitrantrespiratory childhood disorders. However, to our knowledge, no information is available regardingthe connection between passive exposure to tobacco smoke and the children in Zahedan.Methods: Qualitative study using Grounded Theory In ۲۰۲۰ in Zahedan city. Through intentionalsampling and theoretical sampling, the study included ۲۵ children between the ages of ۵ and ۱۳years with a positive history of prolonged exposure to household passive smoke, and who requiredinferior turbinate reduction together with other procedures. Data were collected using semistructuredinterviews and were analyzed using the principles of Grounded Theory: initial codingand focused coding, memo writing, theoretical sampling and constant comparative method.Results: A total of ۵۴ concepts (codes) were identified in open coding and ۱۳ subcategories wereextracted in axial coding. Four main categories including breathing problems, sleep disorder,nausea and physical weakness. Finally, Desire to use drugs a core category.Conclusion: Considering the increasing trend of passive smoking and its considerable adversehealth effects in Zahedan's children, it is necessary to implement large-scale public interventions toreduce the rate and hazards of exposure to tobacco smoke. Our task as medical professionals isclear: given the number of lives at risk, medical and public health communities must acceleratetheir efforts to protect children from exposure to secondhand smoke.
