Background: The family is the most important and noblest institution in building the foundationsof a child's personality, and the significant effects and influence of parents on the personality of aperson is not only limited to childhood and adolescence, but covers his entire adult life as well.For this reason, the origin and source of many anomalies, deviations and social harms can befound in an unhealthy family environment and destructive and tense relationship between familymembers, and considering that one of the major problems of today's society is smoking ,and basedon the studies, smoking is a risk factor in increasing other physical and mental diseases and inaddition to the bad effect on people's body and mind, it also makes a person prone to opioidaddiction and also more than ۹۰% of people Smokers have started smoking before the age of ۲۱,indicating that the family plays the most important role in the tendency and coping with smoking,alcohol and drug use by teenagers and young people. The purpose of this study was to investigatethe effect of smoking and non-smoking parents on the attitude of male children towards smokingMethod: The present study was conducted on male adolescents aging ۱۶ to ۲۰ in Babol , who wererandomly selected based on the available sample and divided into two groups of adolescents withsmoking (۶۰) and non-smoking (۶۰) parents. They completed the attitude scale towards smokingResults: The results of the research showed that there is a significant difference between thescores of attitudes towards smoking between the two groups (P<۰.۰۱). And adolescents withparents who smoke have a positive attitude towards their relationship with smokers, and thisattitude of having a relationship with smokers plays an effective role in increasing their tendencyto smoke in the future.Conclusion: Family education, prenatal care, appropriate parenting, social support fordisadvantaged families and providing an enriched environment for learning and education in theearly years of life can play an important role in preventing smoking disorders and drugs inchildren.
