Iranian EFL Learners’ Metacognitive Awareness in Rural vs. Urban Areas

چکیده مقاله:

The present study aims at comparing metacognitive awareness between Iranian EFL students inurban and rural areas. To this end, ۴۶ EFL students majoring in English translation participated inthe study. These EFL learners were asked to fill in Metacognitive Awareness Inventory by Schrawand Dennison (۴۹۹۶). The results were gathered and analyzed using SPSS version ۶۴. It was foundthat the participants’ metacognitive awareness in rural and urban areas were high. The participantsin rural and urban areas obtained high mean scores on the two levels of metacognition.Metacognitive awareness in urban area was higher, but this difference in distribution was almostequal. So, there was no statistically significant difference in distribution between urban and ruralparticipants in their metacognitive awareness. The obtained results may help EFL Learners as wellas teachers and curriculum designers to keep the benefits of developing metacognitive awareness inurban and rural areas in mind when dealing with language learners’ promotion in learning.
