Assessment the level of knowledge and attitude of college students regarding diabetes mellitus

Aims: Diabetes mellitus is a heterogeneous group of diseases characterized by chronic elevation of glucose in the blood. Diabetes affects some ۳۰۰ million people worldwide and still is on an increasing trend. This study aimed to investigate the level of knowledge of college students about diabetes.  Instrument & methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out on the students of Health and Medical Technology University in Baghdad during ۲۰۲۱-۲۰۲۲. Data were collected using a questionnaire. The questionnaire consisted of two sections including demographic and diabetes information. A diabetes information questionnaire was used to study the knowledge level among the subjects based on the three adequate (acceptable (۳۰-۵۰%), and inadequate (<۳۵۰%) classes. Data were analyzed using a regression logistic test through SPSS ۲۲ software to investigate the contribution of the effective variable on the knowledge level.  Findings: based on the results, the adequate, acceptable, and inadequate knowledge levels of the subjects were ۵۵%, ۳۳%, and ۲۸%, respectively. There was a significant relationship between the demographic variables of age, education level, and family diabetes history with the knowledge level of the subjects at an adequate level (p<۰.۰۵).  Conclusion: Age range, gender, habitat, and family diabetes history are effective on the knowledge level of students about diabetes disease.
