چکیده مقاله:

The microstructure, micro hardness, and wear properties of AZ۳۱/AlN/graphite nano-composite surface layers, fabricated by friction-stir processing were investigated. The layers were fabricated by friction-stir processing of AZ۳۱ substrate pre-placed by nano-sized AlN with mean particle size of ~۳۵nm and graphite particles with mean particle size of ~۴m. The AZ۳۱/AlN and AZ۳۱/AlN/graphite nano-composite surface layer was achieved using a tool rotation and substrate advancing speed of ۱۰۰۰rpm and ۵۰ mm/min, respectively. All of the fabricated layers were subjected to three additional passes.Wear tests were performed for sliding distance of ۱۰۰۰m and sliding velocity of ۰.۵m/s. Different loads were applied to investigate the changes in wear mechanism. The mean micro hardness value of the surface nano-composite layer was found to be improved by almost two times as compared to that of the as-received AZ۳۱ substrate. The surface nano-composite layer produced by four passes showed superior wear resistance and lower friction coefficient; this is attributed to its greater micro hardness value and lubrication effect of graphite particles.
