چکیده مقاله:
Introduction: There is substantial evidence considering oxidative stress as one of migrainepathogenesis. It seems higher dietary antioxidant intake could modulate migraine symptoms insufferers. Therefore, we assessed the relation of the total antioxidant capacity (TAC) of patients’diets with their migraine attack frequency. Methods and Materials: ۲۸۹ volunteer women with migraine were recruited. The usualparticipants’ dietary intakes were collected using a validated food frequency questionnaire. Thedietary total antioxidant capacity of women was determined via three different indices includingdTAC, DAI, and DAQs. The USDA oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC) database wasapplied to calculate dTAC. Personal intakes of vitamins A, E, C, selenium, zinc, and manganesewere compared to the mean participants’ intakes for calculating The DAI (Dietary AntioxidantIndex). Personal intakes of vitamins A, E, C, selenium, and zinc were compared to the RDA valuesfor calculating The DAQs (Dietary Antioxidant Quality score). The multivariate-adjusted ordinalregression was used to assess the relation of three indices scores with migraine attack frequency. Results: a lower score of dTAC was associated with a higher attack frequency [OR (۹۵%CI)model۳= ۱.۹۷(۱.۱- ۳.۵۴), P-value= ۰.۰۲]. The women with DAQs= ۱ and ۳ had significantlyhigher migraine attack frequency compared to women with DAQs=۵ [DAQs=۱: OR (۹۵%CI)model ۳= ۸.۵۹ (۱.۰۶- ۶۹.۷۲), P-value=۰.۰۴] and [DAQs=۳: OR (۹۵%CI) model ۳= ۲.۰۹ (۱.۱۳-۳.۸۵), P-value= ۰.۰۲]. Moreover, the trend of changes among the DAQs and dTAC levels wassignificant (P-values for trend < ۰.۰۵). There was no significant association between tertiles ofDAI and migraine attack frequency (P-value> ۰.۰۵).Conclusion: Based on the results, a high-quality diet in terms of antioxidant capacity is related tolower attack frequency in migrainous women.
