Trauma during COVID-۱۹ pandemic: a systematic review

Background and aim: Coronavirus disease ۲۰۱۹ (COVID-۱۹) is an evolving infectious disease that dramatically spread all over the world in the early part of ۲۰۲۰. During this pandemic, the urgent trauma requirements will not stop. we did this study to review about Trauma during COVID-۱۹ pandemic.Materials and method: This research is a systematic review study done in ۲۰۲۲.The keywords COVID-۱۹, Trauma, Injury searched on Pubmed, Scopus, Embase, Medline, Web of Science without time limitation. Also, the sources of articles were examined to ensure the completion of search results.Results: After search and analysis, finally ۱۱ full text articles selected. As the COVID-۱۹ outbreak continues, there have been anecdotal and epidemiological evidence of patients avoiding hospitals and clinics despite requiring medical care, with significant decreases in hospital admissions for non-COVID-۱۹ diagnoses. In the setting of severe blunt trauma, damaged tissues induce a local and systemic inflammatory response through similar pathways to COVID-۱۹. Emerging evidence in the medical literature suggests that a cytokine storm, also known as CRS, plays an integral role in severe COVID-۱۹.level of cytokine response, hypercoagulability, and pulmonary dysfunction associated with the COVID-۱۹ virus may predispose to a catastrophic “second hit” after even low-energy trauma. For example in patients who proceed to hip fracture surgery, pulmonary complications are known to be a significant contributor to postoperative morbidity, with the incidence of these complications estimated to be approximately ۴%–۹%.In COVID+ patients presenting with orthopaedic trauma, the hyperinflammatory and hypercoagulable state caused by the virus may also have significant implications on blunt injury pathophysiology but some study findings suggest that hip fracture patients who present with asymptomatic or mild COVID-۱۹ infection may have temporarily increased oxygen demands postoperatively, but they can safely undergo early surgical intervention after appropriate medical optimization.Conclusion: It is necessary for the injuries requires community to be prepared for this global pandemic emergency. Proper diagnosis of COVID-۱۹ is the keystone to protect both patients and health care providers. During the pandemic all admitted patients should be screened for COVID-۱۹ infection.
