Corneal Ectasia after Photorefractive Keratectomy

Two cases are presented with corneal ectasia after photorefractive keratectomy (PRK). Case ۱ is a ۲۴-year-old man with manifest refractions of -۶.۰ DS, -۳.۰ DC, axis ۱۸۰° in the right eye and -۴.۵۰ DS, -۴.۰ DC, axis ۱۶۰° in the left eye respectively with a symmetric bow-tie pattern bilaterally, without any evidence of keratoconus on corneal topography preoperatively. Ectasia occurred ۱۰ months after surgery in the right eye.Case ۲ is a ۲۰-year-old man with an attempted correction of −۶.۲۵ DS, -۲.۲۵ DC, axis ۳۰° in the right eye, and −۶.۲۵ DS, −۲.۲۵ DC, axis ۱۵۰° in the left eye. Thinnest central corneal thickness was ۴۹۸µm and ۴۹۹µm in the right and left eyes, respectively. Total ablation depth was ۱۳۷ µm in the right eye and ۱۳۶ µm in the left eye. ۳۸ months after surgery ectasia developed in the left eye.
