چکیده مقاله:

Background: The presence of reactive oxygen species in themale reproductive tract are s trongly linked to infertility. Manypathologies, including male infertility, are caused by oxidatives tress. Recent data in germ cells has related oxidative s tress tothe activation of a novel cell death mode called ferroptosis. Peroxiredoxins(PRDXs) are antioxidant enzymes that have beenlinked to sperm function and male fertility. However, the impactof PRDXs on male fertility remains a key unsolved topic. As aresult, we aimed to learn more about the role of these enzymesin sperm function and fertilization via s tudy their correlationwith ferroptosis.Materials and Methods: The current s tudy, which was conductedfor one year, involved ۹۰ fertile and ۹۰ as thenospermicsubfertile men belonging to Hilla City, Iraq. Semen samplesthat were obtained from the participants were utilized to assessperoxiredoxin-۶ and peroxiredoxin-۴ concentrations in parallelwith measurement of the ferroptosis biomarkers such as glutathioneperoxidase-۴ and malondialdehyde concentration andreduced/ oxidized protein thiol ratio. Results and Conclusion: Peroxiredoxins activity and level arecorrelated with reduced/ oxidized protein thiol ratio and linkedinversely to ferroptosis and directly to semen quality.
