چکیده مقاله:
Background: The integrity of DNA in sperm cells is essentialfor transferring genetic material to the next generation. Accordingto literature, an increased level of sperm DNA fragmentationis related to a low level of fertilization, embryo quality, andpregnancy. The purpose of this s tudy was to assay the correlationbetween semen parameters with sperm DNA fragmentationindex (DFI) in ۵۰۰ oligozoospermic men.Materials and Methods: Semen samples were obtained from۵۰۰ oligozoospermic men referring to Isfahan Fertility and InfertilityCenter. Semen analysis and sperm DNA fragmentationwere assessed according to WHO guideline and sperm chromatins tructure assay (SCSA), respectively. Sperm concentrationand motility were assessed by sperm counting chamber throughcomputer-assis ted semen analysis software, and semen volumewas es timated by weight. Pearson correlation coefficient inSPSS was used for the relationship between sperm count withthe aforementioned parameters. Results: A positive significant correlation was observed betweensperm DNA damage with the percentage of sperm abnormalmorphology (r=۰.۱۲۵; P=۰.۰۰۶). In addition, negativesignificant correlations were found between sperm DNA damagewith sperm concentration (r=-۰.۱۶۸; P=۰.۰۰۰), and motility(r=-۰.۲۱۶; P=۰.۰۰۰). We did not observe a significant correlationbetween semen volume with sperm DNA damage (P>۰.۰۵).Conclusion: Our s tudy demons trated that a high level of spermDNA damage is associated with a significant impairment in allthe sperm parameters.
