Removal of heavy metals from water and wastewater using biodegradable adsorbents

Heavy metals are one of the pollutants that have received a lot of attention due to their stable nature, non-degradability, toxicity, cumulative and carcinogenic effects, and can enter the environment with effluents or sewage from various industries. Various studies indicate the destructive effects of heavy metals such as severe poisoning when they enter the body in excess. Therefore, the presence of heavy metals in aquatic ecosystems is a constant threat to the health of human communities. There are diffrent methods such as physico-chemical and biological methods such as membrane methods, chemical precipitation, electrochemical treatment, adsorption, ion exchange, flotation and coagulation. In this article, we tried to examine the methods with the least cost and the highest efficiency, such as adsorption using biodegradable adsorbents.
