چکیده مقاله:

Energy storage devices (ESDs) can be used coordinately with load frequency control (LFC) to contribute effectively in improving frequency regulation (FR) of hybrid power systems including renewable energy sources (RESs). Due to intermittencies and uncertainties in the output power of RESs, improving the FR is an important issue. In current article, impact of superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES) and capacitive energy storage (CES) units on LFC performance of a hybrid power system is investigated. An interconnected multi-source power system incorporating conventional generations and doubly fed induction generator (DFIG)-based wind turbine generator (WTG) is regarded for the examinations. Besides, the intrinsic limitations like governor dead band (GDB) and generation rate constraint (GRC) are considered to achieve realistic results. The SMES and CES based controllers are designed in coordination with LFC to maximize the performance of the ESDs in the FR issue. The dynamic performance and robustness of the SMES-LFC and CES-LFC are verified under various load perturbation patterns and sensitivity analysis. The simulation outputs reveal that though both of the ESDs are effective solutions to improve LFC performance, the CES-LFC coordination outperforms the SMES-LFC in viewpoint of providing a little better dynamic responses.
