The main purpose of an Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) is to prevent wheel lock-ups during severe braking conditions on different road surfaces. In this paper, a new Fuzzy Logic Control (FLC) system is applied on the ABS system and the tracking performance of wheelslip is compared with that of the standard PIDcontroller. To generate extensive simulation data required for construction of fuzzy rule base and the braking system, a quarter vehicle model is developed. Vehicle’s forward velocity and the wheel slip trackingerror are fed as the inputs of the FLC. The tracking control performance of the FLC is simulated under abrupt change of road condition and also in the presence of stochastic uncertainties. The results are compared with those of the PID control system.
