چکیده مقاله:
Currently, composite materials have gained a great attention in the field of medical applications. Among different composite materials such as ceramic/metals, ceramic/polymers and ceramic/ceramics, ceramic/polymer composites possess significant advantages of high mechanical reliability (polymers) and excellent biocompatibility (ceramics) for applications in load bearing areas. This paper reviews the effect of adding different fillers on an acrylic base resin called PMMA. that Specific attention is given to the effect of filler, and nanofiller addition on poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) properties. The review is based on scientific reviews, papers, and abstracts, as well as studies concerning the effect of additives, fillers, and reinforcement materials on PMMA. Researchers to reinforce PMMA resins have used nanoparticles (Nps) such as zirconium dioxide nanoparticles (ZrO۲), Al۲O۳, nano hydroxyapatite, TiO۲, and ZrO۲Y۲O۳ nanoparticles. The current article aims to review the different attempts to enhance the mechanical properties of PMMA. We focus on recent advances for reinforcement of the PMMA acrylic resins. Considering the findings of the review, the properties of PMMA could be improved with some modifications, especially with nanoparticle addition and a hybrid reinforcement system.
