چکیده مقاله:
Background and Aim : Staphylococcus. aureus is the second agent of nosocomial infection.About ۳۰% of health care staff in hospitals is nasal carrier of this species. Improper use ofantibiotics has led the bacterium to resist against methicillin named MRSA. The aim of this studywas to represent the prevalence of nasal S. aureus and MRSA among medical students andconsequently, determination the susceptibility of the isolates against different antibiotics. Methods : In this cross – sectional study, a total of ۳۰۰ nasal swabs were collected from internand stager medical students in Shahid Sadoughi hospital of Yazd. Samples were then subjected torelated tests for diagnosis of S. aureus species. Following methicillin resistance determination allwere further antibiogramed using ۱۰ selected antibiotics disks by disk diffusion method. The datawere analyzed using SPSS ۱۶ ver. Results : Results showed that ۶۲(۲۱%) of samples were found to be positive for S. aureus in which۱۸ (۲۹%) Samples were MRSA. Among the positive cases, ۳۳(۵۳.۲%) were female and ۲۹ (۴۶.۸%)were male students. The MRSA carriers were significantly higher intern than in stager (p=۰.۰۴۵).In addition, university entrance of year ۲۰۱۳ were significantly more infected with MRSA incompared to those ۲۰۱۶ entrance year (p=۰.۰۲). Antibiotic sensitivity test revealed that all isolateswere completely resistance to penicillin, but ۱۰۰% sensitive to both Gentamycin and Rifampinantibiotics. Conclusion : High prevalence of S. aureus and MRSA carriers is mainly due to both medical andPhysicians’ contamination. Therefore; it seems necessary not only to point out the students buttreat them with effective antibiotics. In addition screening all the medical staff for detection of S.aureus together with MRSA and taken them under adequate treatment.
