چکیده مقاله:

Backgrounds: The outbreak of coronavirus disease ۲۰۱۹ (COVID-۱۹) in the area of Wuhan,China, has evolved rapidly into a public health crisis۱ and has spread exponentially to other partsof the world. Curcumin, a natural product present in turmeric, is nominated as a potentialtreatment for COVID-۱۹ due to its ability to blocking the entrance of the virus to the cell, confining the virus, and regulating different cellular signaling pathways.Materials and Methods: In this study, a randomized placebo-controlled study was done toinvestigate the effectiveness and safety of nano curcumin oral soft gels as a complementarytherapy on clinical outcomes in COVID-۱۹ patients with moderate-severe disease. All forty-twoCOVID-۱۹ patients were received routine treatment as Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) plusSofosbuvir and divided into two groups of nano-curcumin (Curcuden) and placebo. The nanocurcumingroup received ۱۴۰ mg of nano-curcumin soft gel, for ۱۴ days. Results: General information, clinical characteristics, blood laboratory tests, and chest computedtomography (CT) images were taken from all patients at time points of ۰, ۷, and ۱۴ days. CRPand ESR levels significantly decreased from baseline in the nano-curcumin group at day ۷.Furthermore, in the Curcuden group D-dimer, CRP, serum ferritin, and ESR levels decreasedmore significantly than that in the control group after ۱۴ days. Blood levels of inflammatorycytokines including IL-۶, IL-۸, and IL-۱۰ also decreased more significantly in the nanocurcumingroup after ۱۴ days compared to the placebo group. The total CT score wassignificantly higher in the placebo group than in Curcuden treated group after ۱۴ days. Similarly, the CT score of patients in placebo group was significantly higher compared to in the Curcudengroup on day ۱۴.Conclusion: Our data showed that administration of nano-curcumin as a complementarytreatment for moderate-severe COVID-۱۹ patients can speed up the time of chest clearance andrecovering. Accordingly, it is suggested that nano-curcumin soft gel due to its high solubility andabsorbance can consider as an effective and promising treatment against COVID-۱۹.
