Comparison of CD۴+ and CD۸+ T- lymphocyte in Helicobacter pylorinegative functional dyspepsia

Backgrounds: Functional dyspepsia (FD), with a global prevalence of ۱۰-۲۰%۱, is usuallycharacterized by persistent or recurrent abdominal discomfort or pain with no obvious cause۲.The current study was designed to evaluate and compare CD۴+ and CD۸+ in Helicobacterpylori-negative functional dyspepsia with the control groups.Materials and Methods: Sixty-one patients (۳۵ patients with stomach pain and ۲۶ withabdominal bloating), and ۳۰ controls were reviewed based on the quantity of CD۴+ and CD۸+T-cells isolated from gastric mucosa biopsy samples. The comparison between variables wasanalyzed with a chi-square or Fisher’s exact test and logistic regression analyses.Results: A significant difference was observed between two-group patients and the controlgroup based on CD۴+ and CD۸+ presence, respectively (P=۰.۰۰۳ and P=۰.۰۰۸). Furthermore,there was a significant difference between stomach pain patients and the control group withregard to CD۴ count (P=۰.۰۱) and between abdominal bloating patients and the control groupwith regard to CD۸ count (P=۰.۰۰۲). There was a decrease in both CD۴+ and CD۸+ T-cells ingastric mucosa in patients with FD with a significant reduction in the stomach pain-patients andabdominal bloating-patients in the number of CD۴+ and CD۸+ T-cells, respectively.Conclusion: The symptoms of FD have a positive correlation with the presence of CD۴+ andCD۸+ T cells in the gastric mucosa due to various factors. These T cells might play an importantrole in inflammation, which might help to find a more specific therapy for FD.
