چکیده

Chronic inflammation is a modifiable risk factor to the etiology ofcarcinogenesis.• Diet as a life-style related factor, has been implicated to modulatepotentially the inflammation and related-chronic diseases. Dietaryinflammatory index (DII) is a nutritional tool providing morecomprehensive picture of the inflammatory potential ofindividual’s diet, which is a representative of agonistic andantagonistic inflammatory compounds in a diet• Studies investigating DII in association with breast cancer (BrCa)risk provided inconsistent results. This systematic review aimed toshow associations between DII and BrCa risk.Systematic search of Scopus, PubMed, and Embase databases wasperformed. Observational studies turned out eligible when theNewcastle-Ottawa Quality Assessment Scale (NOS) ≥ ۷. Thehighest DII score (most pro-inflammatory diet) vs. lowest categorywere analyzed to estimate risk ratio (RR) of BrCa using STATA ۱۶software. Data were extracted from twenty one eligible studies, including eleven cohorts (۳۳۶,۰۸۵ participants/۲۰,۰۳۳ incidencecases), and ten case-control studies (۹,۸۳۳ cases/۱۲,۷۵۲controls).Meta-regression was conducted to determine the source ofheterogeneity. The Egger’s and Begg’s tests and funnel plots wereused to evaluate the publication bias.
