Achieving the pathogenesis of inflammatory intestine(bowel) disease by tissue proteome

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) has become a globaldisease encompassing a group of progressive disorderscharacterized by recurrent chronic inflammation of the gutwith variable disease courses and complications. Despite recentadvances in the knowledge of IBD pathophysiology, theelucidation of its etiopathology and progression is far fromfully understood, requiring complex and multiple approaches.Therefore, limited clinical progress in diagnosis, assessment ofdisease activity, and optimal therapeutic regimens have beenmade over the past few decades. This review explores recentadvances and challenges in tissue proteomics with an emphasison biomarker discovery and a better understanding of themolecular mechanisms underlying IBD pathogenesis. Futuremulti-omic studies are required for the comprehensivemolecular characterization of disease biology in real-time witha future impact on early detection, disease monitoring, andprediction of the clinical outcome.
