چکیده مقاله:

Background : Sleep deprivation is prevalent in the general population and can be caused by environmental and psychological variables, medical and psychotic conditions, and sleep disorders including insomnia, circadian rhythm abnormalities, sleep apnea, and restless legs. Women are more vulnerable to sleep problems than males, and complaints of sleep disruption are more common in women over the life span. Many common sleep problems, such as obstructive sleep apnea and restless legs, maybe worsen during the perinatal period. There is a complex interplay between maternal quality sleep, the mother-infant connection, and the neurobiological processes that mediate these relationships that need to be investigated further. The aim of the present study was to assess the prevalence of sleep disorders in postpartum women and their infants. Methods: This study was carried out among ۳۴۷ women aged between ۲۹.۵±۵.۹ years and their infants aged ۱-۶ months. The presence, intensity of sleep disorders in mothers and their infants were evaluated by validated questionnaires such as the Petersburg sleep quality index (PSQI) and infant sleep questionnaire (ISQ).Results: Prevalence of about ۵۰.۶%, ۱۱.۹%, ۷۰.۷%, and ۹۰.۷% of participants had latency sleep, daytime dysfunction sleep, efficacy sleep and sleep disorder in mothers, and ۳۹.۴% sleep disorder in infants. This study shows the prevalence of psychological disorders in postpartum women and their infants. Conclusion: The postpartum period is vital for new mother and, their families. A new mom’s physical and mental health could be negatively affected by sleep disorders. Thus, it is imperative to identify the prevalence of sleep disorders and social risk factors that lead to the emergence of these disorders in mothers and their children and develop necessary interventions for populations at risk.
