The Effect of Emotional Intelligence Educational Intervention on and Occupational Stress and Perceived Stress in Health Care Providers of Andimeshk Comprehensive Health Centers

Background and Objective: Stress is a common disease of the ۲۱st century and one of the major causes of stress in life is occupational stress. Emotional intelligence can facilitate the mechanism of coping with stress and provide the individual with an effective self-regulation system for coping with stress. Objective of study was investigate the effect of emotional intelligence training program (EITP) on Occupational stress and perceived stress in health care providers.Materials and Methods: ۸۰ fulfilled the study requirement. Absolute change from baseline to final were determined using demographic information, Bradberry & Graves Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire, HSE Standard Occupational Stress Questionnaire and Cohen et al. Perceived Stress Questionnaire (pss-۱۰) two groups examined at baseline and one months later (January (۲۸) until March (۷) ۲۰۱۹). Intervention was two workshop in-person EITP. Inperson training program include ۲ workshops of ۶ hours. Follow up ۳۰ days. Data were analyzed using SPSS ۲۲ software.Results: ۷۵ participants were analyzed (n=۳۷ in the intervention group vs n= ۳۸ in the control group). There was a significant difference between the experimental and control groups in term of mean score of emotional intelligence after the intervention (p = ۰.۰۰۲). There was no significant difference between the experimental and control groups in terms of mean score of occupational stress and perceived stress (p> ۰.۰۵). There was a significant difference between the experimental and control groups regarding the mean score of peer support (p = ۰.۰۲۴). In the experimental group after the intervention, the mean score of occupational stress and perceived stress showed a significant improvement (p <۰.۰۵).Conclusion: The results of this study showed that after the intervention based on emotional intelligence, improved occupational stress and perceived stress, so it is recommended to include emotional intelligence training in annual retraining programs.
