The global pandemics are getting more frequent and severe

Evidence shows that deadly pandemics have beenhappening more often in recent decades۱, ۲. As shown in Figure۱, ۵ out of ۱۲ deadly pandemics occurred in the ۲۰th centuryand the other ۲ in the ۲۱st century. The last four pandemicsoccurred almost every ۱۵ years on average. It seems that theoccurrence of pandemics getting more frequent over time. Itwarns us that deadly pandemics are likely to keep happening,spread faster, and kill more people than Coronavirus Disease۲۰۱۹ (COVID-۱۹) soon if we do not take appropriatepreemptive global action to protect natural environments. Suchpandemics can be a dangerous threat to the world economy andlong-lasting harm to social and cultural life.
