Degradation of organic dye by g-C۳N۴-CuO nanocomposite photocatalyst fromwastewater

Removing pollutants such as organic dyes has become a critical challenge and can be degraded usingphotocatalysts. In this study graphite carbon nitride (g-C۳N۴), pure copper oxide (CuO), and g-C۳N۴-۵۰wt.%CuO nanocomposite were synthesized through a chemical method. Several techniques havebeen used to characterize the prepared samples. X-ray diffraction (XRD) results confirmed that thesynthesized nanocomposite consists of g-C۳N۴ and CuO phases. The results of field emission scanningelectron microscopy (FESEM) showed that CuO particles are placed on g-C۳N۴ nanosheets. The opticalband gap energy of ۲.۳ eV was estimated by diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS). The photocatalyticperformance of the synthesized compound was evaluated on methylene blue (MB) dye. Degradationtests were performed for ۱۸۰ min under visible light irradiation. The highest degradation rate wasobtained over g-C۳N۴-CuO nanocomposite.
