Investigation of the optimal curvature performance of the flange connected to the wind turbine shroud

The use of clean and renewable energy in today's world has become a favorite of many green building designers. Small urban turbines can supply the energy needed by many urban buildings. Unfortunately, wind quality in urban environments is not high and the use of booster tools is a favorite of engineers. Boosting tools increase the aerodynamic forces on the turbine blades, which will ultimately lead to an increase in angular velocity and turbine torque. Since the product of angular velocity multiplied by torque is equal to power, increasing these two variables will increase turbine power. Shrouds are one of these tools. Installing the flange with optimal curvature can create vortices behind the shroud, which in turn will increase the pressure difference between the front and rear and increase the mass flow rate of air passing through the shroud. In the present study, different curvatures for making shroud flange have been investigated through numerical calculations and the optimal curvature for making such flanges has been found. Finally, these findings have been evaluated and proven using turbulence kinetic energy. The results show a ۲.۸۵% increase in the average velocity in the shroud after installing the flange with optimal curvature on the shroud of the urban wind turbine.
