Evaluation of performance , attitude and its relationship with pressure injuries in intensive care unit nurses in educational hospitals of Qazvin university of medical sciences

Introduction: Prevention and care of pressure injuries is one of the main duties of nurses working in intensive care units.This study aimed to evaluate the performance and its relationship with the attitude of intensive care nurses regarding pressure injury.Methods: This descriptive-analytical study was performed in the intensive care units of Qazvin University of Medical Sciences in ۱۳۹۸. The sample size was ۱۲۰ persons who were selected as available. Nurses' Attitude Questionnaire "Attitude to Prevention of pressure Injury Prevention" designed by Moore et al , With ۱۱ questions was used. Also, the performance of each nurse was evaluated ۳ times by pressure injury using observation method. Observations began each time from the beginning of a shift and continued until the end of the shift. For this purpose, a checklist of "Quality of Nursing Care in pressure Injury" with ۸۶ items classified in ۶ field was used.Results: The mean score of nurses' performance regarding prevention and care of patients at risk or suffering from pressure injury was ۷۱.۴ with a standard deviation of ۱۳.۵. The highest and lowest mean scores were in the areas of "skin assessment" and "skin care in high risk patients", respectively.. The mean score of nurses' attitude toward pressure was ۲۵.۲۶ with a deviation of ۵.۱. The results of Pearson correlation test showed a significant and direct relationship between the mean score of performance in relation to prevention and care in pressure and the mean score of nurses' attitude to prevention of pressure (r = ۰.۲۶, p = ۰.۰۰۵).Conclusion: Intensive care nurses in the present study had relatively favorable performance and a relatively positive attitude toward pressure injury. In addition, people with a more positive attitude had a higher quality of performance.
