Physiological performance of ajowan (Trachyspermum ammi L.) under salt stress

A greenhouse experiment on the basis of randomized complete block design in three replicates was performed to investigate the effects of salinity (۰, ۴, ۸ and ۱۲ dS m−۱ NaCl, non-saline and low, moderate and severe salinities, respectively) on physiological performance and growth of ajowan (Trachyspermum ammi L.) plants. The results showed that rising salinity reduced leaf water and total chlorophyll contents. These physiological changes were led to a deduction in root growth and plant biomass. The plant biomass was reduced by ۴۳.۶۳% and ۷۰.۹۶% under moderate and severe salinities, respectively.
