The Romantic period is known as the revolutionary period. English Romantics were under the influence of many events and the history of the time. Poets of the time took responsibility to redeem mankind from the chaotic world. They became the subject of their art and composed a magnificent number of memorable works. This paper attempts to investigate ideology policy and its effect on the psyche of the poets. Samuel Tylor Coleridge, one of the major Artists of the period also paid attention to the content of his dreams and attempted to find meaning behind each. Dreams are known as the suppressed desires extracted from ideological practices and their role on the psyche. The findings show that how the fears and suppressions derived from the society and events of the time could affect individuals through their personal life. Moreover, the Romantics bold I and point out inner conflicts of the subject which are the result of the chaotic situation caused by Revolutions and suppressions. This paper by borrowing Lacan's psychoanalysis along with Althusser's ideology aimed to shed light upon the essence of Coleridge's poem "The Pains of Sleep". This poem projects the poet's conflicts from the outside world and driving him into a secluded world of sleep which hunts him in his nightmares.
