چکیده مقاله:

The beauty of this world is an illusion that covers the sad reality that man's suffering can never be alleviated, and poetry of all ages has shown various interpretations on this dreadful perception; as a result of this abysmal grasp, Omar Khayyam and Matthew Arnold witness a poignant picture of their current context. In this article, we intend to investigate how Omar Khayyam and Arnold depict the suffering that might besiege human beings and sermonized them to deal with over time in their poems. Based on our investigation on the quatrains of Omar Khayyam, he emphasizes on the concept of carpe diem and warn human to not mourn for past and future; while Matthew Arnold seems to have worried much about how a man might have a well-balanced and pleasurable existence in a world pervaded by modern industrialization.
