Meta -stable excited stat es of Cl۲۲ -

Most of the small dianions ar e unstable in the gas phase, but in the ele ctron impact experime nts carried out on some diatomic a nions, such as C-۲ and Cl-۲ , resonance structures ۲ ۲ have been reported that can be considered as a sign of th e formation of excited state diatomic dianions [۱,۲]. The threshold behavior of the cross section and for mation of do ubly charg ed negative ions (diani ons) as a re sult of the temporary ca pture of the incident electron by t he singly c harged nega tive ion, are two interesting aspe cts of such a collision system. N o information has been available to date on the properties and potential characteristics of Cl۲ ۲- In addition, diatomic dianions s uch as Cl۲ ۲- are of considerable intrinsic interest to physicists due to c orrelation b etween their outer space electrons [۲]. To investigate the probability of the form ation of Cl۲ ۲- during t he electron impact exp eriment and its contribution to t he etching process of semiconductors by the chlorine gas, the grou nd state potential energ y curves o f Cl ۲ , Cl۲- a nd Cl۲ ۲- sp ecies are calculated.
