چکیده مقاله:

Textile wastewater is chara cterized by strong color, large amount of suspended solids, broadly fluctuating pH, hig h chemical oxygen demand (C OD), bio t oxicity and causes coloring of the receiving water environment. Although dyes constitute only a small p ortion of the tot al volume of wastes discharge in textile p rocessing, but because of the c hemical stabilit y of these pollutants, th ey are not readily removed by traditional methods. In recent years, a wide range of alternative technologies so called a dvanced oxidation processes (AOPs), are consid ered to be promising methods for the treatment of ha zardous toxic or ganic pollu tants in wastewaters. AOPs have emerged as potentially powerful methods that ar e capable o f transfor ming the pollutants into harmless substanc es. Their oxidation mechan isms rely on the gen eration of very reactive free ra dicals, such as the h ydroxyl radicals (OHÛ). Comm on AOPs could be broadly classified in to ozone, ozone/UV, ozon e/H۲O۲, ozone/ UV/H۲O۲, photo catalysis, Fenton ’s process and ozone/electrolysis. Some advantages of ozone-electrolysis are that: ۱) Possibility of operation at room temper ature and at mospheric pressure; ۲) The process only re quires electrical energ y supply to be carried on and produce strong o xidants; ۳) This proce ss do not produce secondary polluta nts.
