چکیده مقاله:

Due to the gener al aggressi ve nature o f acid sol utions, inhibitors are commonly used to reduce the corros ive attack of acid s olutions t o the contacted meta llic materials [۱]. Unfortu nately, ma ny commo n corrosion inhibitors that are still in use today are health hazards. Therefore , there is still an incr eased atten ion directed towards the develop ment of environmentally compatible, nonpollutin g corrosio n inhibitors. Okafor et al. [۲] studied the inhibitive action of leaves, seeds and a combin ation of leaves and seeds extracts of Phyllan thus amarus on mild steel corrosion in HCl and H۲SO۴ solutions. Rocha and coworkers [۳] reported the effect of aqueous extr acts of man go, orange , passion fruit and cashew peels as corrosion inhibitors for carbon steel in ۱ M hydrochloric acid. Presently, there is no reporte d work on inhibitive effects of s pearmint (Mentha spicata L.) ex tract on acid corrosion of mild steels (MS) in hydrochloric acid solution. Therefore, we consider it necessary to study the effect of spear mint extract on the acid corrosion of MS in HCl solutio n. The in vestigation of corrosion parameters was performed by weight loss, electroc hemical polarization measurements and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Quantum chemical calculatio ns were performed to illustrate the proces s of adsorption of some s pecific components of the extract.
