چکیده مقاله:
In the present work, benzyl triethanol ammonium chloride (BTEAC) was employed as a reactive antibacterial additive in the preparation of antibacterial polyurethane coatings. BTEAC was synthesized via quaternization of benzyl chloride with triethanol amine at 80 ºC. Castor oil (CO) as a renewable polyol, polyethylene glycol (PEG 1000) and BTEAC were used for preparation of polyurethane coatings via a one-shot method using toluene diisocyanate (TDI). Mechanical and physical properties as well as biocompatibility and antibacterial properties were evaluated for these new coating materials. All of formulations showed complete curing with gel content more than 90% at 60 ºC after 4 h. DMTA traces of these polymers showed two phase structure with two transitions in the range of 0-15 °C and 140-170 °C related to soft and hard segment glass transition temperature, respectively. According to stress-strain curves, tensile strength of prepared films was dependent on BTEAC content and increased with BTEAC amount, while elongation at break was decreased at higher percent of BTEAC. Surface hydrophilicity of prepared films was increased at higher amounts of BTEAC and PEG 1000. The solvent resistant of coatings based on MEK rub test was excellent. Cell culture test and MTT assay based on mouse L929 fibroblast cells indicated no cytotoxicity for prepared polyurethanes. As well, the cells viability increased with increasing BTEAC content. The assay of antibacterial activity showed maximum efficacy for samples with high hydrophilicity and high amount of BTEAC.
