The Accuracy of WebMD symptom Checker for COVID-۱۹ diagnosis in Imam Hasan Hospital of North Khorasan, IRAN

COVID-۱۹ is a disease caused by a new strain of coronavirus. Patients can be asymptomatic or symptomatic and symptoms varies from respiratory to systemic and it is difficult to distinguish Covid۱۹ infection from other similar disease in many cases and it makes healthcare workers at high risk of exposure. Also Infected healthcare workers could also be a source of infection for patients and other healthcare workers. So, it seems there should be a way of recognizing infected patients and isolating them from other patients in infectious disease wards in hospitals before results of PCR tests gets ready.In thisstudy we are going to evaluate accuracy of WebMD symptom checker (https://symptoms.webmd.com/ ) for Covid۱۹ diagnosis in Imam Hasan Hospital of North Khorasan, IRAN Materials and Methods: In this study, ۱۰۵ hospitalized patients in infection diseases ward in Imam Hasan hospital were chosen. These patients were asked a series of branched logic questions about symptoms, and comorbidities by our researcher soon after they were admitted to the hospital. Then the PCR test was done for all patients by intranasal sampling.for the group whose PCR test was positive (contain ۶۶ patients), we enteredthe data in WebMD symptom checker in order to find most probable DDx proposed by the website .Findings:Of the ۶۶ patients enrolled, the average age was ۴۷/۴۱±۱۳/۵۲. ۳۸ were men (۵۲/۵۲%- with the least age of ۲۲ years and maximum age of ۷۵ years). ۲۸ were women (۴۲/۴۲%- with the least age of ۳۲ years and maximum age of ۷۸ years).Out of the ۶۶ patients whose information were entered in WebMD symptom checker, ۲۳(۳۵%) were correctly diagnosed with Covid-۱۹ as the first diagnosis. In ۴۱ of the ۶۶ cases, Covid- ۱۹ was one of the ۳ main diagnoses. (۶۲%)In ۶۳(۹۵%) patients Covid-۱۹ was among the ۱۰ main diagnoses and finally in All ۶۶(۱۰۰%) cases Covid-۱۹ was amongst the top ۱۳ diagnoses suggested by the system.
