Mechanism Action of defoaming

Foams and defoamers are two entities with completely different natures. For example, foams are in contact bubbly structures, while defoamers are emulsions that contain hydrophobic particles. Interaction between particles makes the foam decay faster. Such mechanism of action is a complex phenomenon taking place in the foam. Thus defoamers are known as powerful foam suppressors. For these reasons, they are very important from fundamental and practical viewpoints. This paper summarizes the mechanism action of defoamer and the necessity of using defoamer in coating compositions.
