چکیده مقاله:

earthquake in Iran is a human tragedy. Notwithstanding, earthquakes provide opportunities for scientific evaluations leading to: better understanding of seismo-tectonics of the devastated region, technologically sound plans for reconstruction, and improved construction practices. Following the ۱۹۸۸ Spitak earthquake the authors embarked on an evaluation of the damages incurred from the earthquake. Their scientific effort was funded by the National Science Foundation of the United States government. The purpose of their investigation was to study and evaluate the lessons to be learned from the Spitak earthquake that could help mitigate the effects of future earthquakes.
