EARTHQUAKE RESISTANCE OF UNREINFORCED CLAY BRICK MASONRY WALLS

The paper presents the experimental results of ten ۱.۰x۱.۰ m brick masonry walls and comparison with some analytical expressions. The walls were subjected to a combined action of vertical and cyclic in-plane horizontal loads. The results define the hysteresis behaviour of the panels in linear and post-linear range up to the stage of failure. The results are compared with analytical expressions for maximum resistance. A detail description of testing procedure and structural properties of the materials are given. The overall behaviour of panels is elaborated on with a panicular emphasise on types of failure, strength, ductility and stiffness degradation.
