Natural products in Medicine: Actinobacteria as prolific producers of bioactive metabolites

The rising generation of diseases has opened the doors for the ascertainment of unique and novel drugs by using natural resources. Actinobacteria have been foresighted as the main source of interest for the microbiologists to produce drugs involved in treatment of different ailments.Streptomycetes is the most significant group of Actinobacteria having the ability to produce the highest number of bioactive metabolites among all the Actinobacteria. Marine Actinobacteria have been evaluated in the current span for their role in producing a variety of bioactive metabolites. Actinobacteria have been found to be very productive in terms of generating pharmacological metabolites. The pharmacological activities possessed by actinobacteria included anticancer, antiviral, antimalarial, antioxidant activities, antiparasitic, antifungal, antibacterial and others. The necessity is to examine more natural resources for the treatment of newly emerging diseases.
