An Overview on Ropeways: History, Technologies, Mechanical and Electrical Equipments

The evolution of transit modes has been a remarkable one, fuelled by the need for different transit modes to handle different demand levels and even natural constraints and barriers. One of these needs is the desire to overcome geographical and topographical barriers such as mountains, valleys, and water bodies, which conventional transit modes cannot conquer without huge investments and natural topography changes. Ropeway System, a type of aerial transportation mode in which passengers and material are transported in a cabin that is suspended and pulled by cables. This article addresses the history of ropeway evolution in section ۲. Several different types of ropeway systems have been studied in section ۳, and finally, the mechanical and electrical components of common ropeways have been expressed in sections ۴, ۵.
